We are in the process of upgrading our DC Network Cores. That has the prereq of changing enclosures for some very critical gear providing equally critical services, so a lot of DR actions were taking place during the previous weekends.. Part1 #devnet #netmiko
As usual, my team mate prepared the command sequences, I reviewed them with her, and we got them ready for execution on the big days. On the eve of the big changes, I sat down and wrote python netmiko scripts for every action: Part2 #devnet #netmiko
WLC switch over, BGP peer shutdown/activation, FW cluster switchover, etc etc. Most of it worked like a charm, the rest needed some tweaking so I learned a few things. So right in the middle of the action I got to play a bit with my automation toys. Part3 #Devnet #Netmiko
You might say.. did you really accomplish anything difficult there? What was the big deal? Just taking the commands from the action plan, and sending them over to the appropriate device, using appropriate modules and appropriate command types.. Part4 #Devnet #Netmiko
Well, that's the whole point: IT'S NOT DIFFICULT, IT'S PRETTY EASY! It's reliable, it's fast (except for my team mate who is always faster than python, she can type in lightning mode), it's documented, it's standardized. Part5 #Devnet #Netmiko
With a little more tweaking anyone given the appropriate rights can execute them and they can become an important part of a larger fully automated DR plan, and I can also generate logging for it. Part6 #Devnet #Netmiko
Plus I learned new things and can now automate things I didn't know how before.
Keep learning, keep trying, do the little things first. And share. Part7 (final) #Devnet #Netmiko
