@sdmouton @wycats @hallstephenj No question the naming is confusing. If we still called this Google Talk, I think we would be having different conversations. Apologies it came off as a tirade, my intention was to explain, not vent. So let me try again...
@sdmouton @wycats @hallstephenj 1/ All users will have access to Chat and Meet, just like Gmail, Docs, Drive, etc. Right now Chat and Meet are only available to G Suite users, but this will change in 2019. Hangouts classic supports team messaging and what we call ad-hoc video calls.
@sdmouton @wycats @hallstephenj 2/ Classic never had a dedicated UI for scheduled meetings...Calendar would generated a URL that went to classic, but there was no way to join a scheduled meeting from within classic. Meet provides this UI, so is additive.
@sdmouton @wycats @hallstephenj 3/ Chat is meant to cover the messaging use cases that classic does. Still work to do to make this a reality. This is why we are running the products in parallel, and haven't decided on sunset or migration timing. Once we do, we will clearly communicate.
@sdmouton @wycats @hallstephenj 4/ The issue I was taking with the article was that it took a single source and presented it in a way that set-off a maelstrom of misinformation.
