Orange County seems to have skipped right past the risk limiting audit and published official vote count. Turns out it’s the highest turnout in 50 years one county even had 120% turnout impressive... @DHSgov @ODNIgov
Orange County just doesn’t make sense. October 22nd totals for voter registration there show 541,665 (R) and 523,624 (D) yet totals from Election Day for D’s surpass that by 40k votes so we’re to believe there was 100%+ turnout of registered Dems?
It’s not as if Republicans didn’t show up? Harkey race had a 76% turnout, there’s zero rhyme or reason.

I’m not saying looking at @FiveThirtyEight’s model and charts and stuff isn’t cool, because it is and provides some insight. But no matter what the numbers say, it’s most certainly NEVER an excuse to not #Vote because you feel your peeps are a “lock”
Need nothing further than to point to 2016. Which by the way, @FiveThirtyEight didn’t really have wrong, but the “selected not elected” mindset existed before 2016. Why else would over 100 million people choose NOT to participate in their civic duty to choose their leaders.

Even though I've written hundreds of them and published dozens, at this point, I have no idea how to sit down and write a short story. That ability seems almost entirely gone. I wonder if I could get it back and what form it would take.
It's been maybe three years since I even attempted to write a short story, longer than that since I've completed a satisfactory one, so my confusion about how to write one could easily be a matter of lack of practice.
I played hockey in one form or another through college, but then had 13 years where I didn't even skate.When I first got back on the ice, I fell on my face. Ultimately, I got back to what passed for personal competency, fairly quickly. Would the same happen with short stories?

Let’s add a little context to the discussion of voting security in the US. To do that, I’m going to do something Computer Scientists are bad at - I’m going to talk about history. Specifically, let’s look at the Help America #Vote Act (HAVA) of 2002. 1/
The reason to talk about HAVA is to start recognizing some of the challenges of paper ballot-based voting. HAVA came about largely because paper ballots were proving to be extremely difficult to manage. 2/
For instance, paper ballots are expensive (they’re not printed on standard college-rule paper), and they’re not reusable across elections. You’ve also got to try and guess who is going to show up to the poll, and how many ballots you’ll need in each language. 3/
