We’re excited to announce our next major show, opening in 2019!

#MangaExhibition will explore the phenomenon of manga, and will be the largest exhibition of the art form ever to take place outside of Japan.
Manga is a Japanese visual narrative art, telling stories with pictures in real or imagined worlds. #MangaExhibition
Originating in Japan, today manga is loved across the world. From comics, anime and cosplay to graphic novels, fashion and gaming, manga has influenced artists and fans around the globe. #MangaExhibition
As a genre, manga developed after the Second World War, but its artistic roots can be traced back to narrative hand scrolls from the 12th century!

We’ve rounded up 10 key works that chart the history of Manga in this blog: #MangaExhibition
But why a show about manga at the British Museum? Our curators look after a growing collection of manga, and continue to collect contemporary works in this hugely significant genre. #MangaExhibition
Enter a graphic world where art and storytelling collide – brought to life like never before in our ground-breaking #MangaExhibition
Director Hartwig Fischer: ‘I am hugely thankful for @Citi’s continuing commitment to supporting projects at the British Museum.’
Many of the objects in our #MangaExhibition are loans coming to the UK for the first time, transported by logistics partner @IAG_Cargo
The Citi exhibition ‘Manga マンガ’ opens 23 May 2019 – book tickets: #MangaExhibition
