Can we really have a free and fair elections in 2019? One thing is certain: The electoral reform is expected to a large extent make the elections free and fair but why is the president refusing to assent to the bill? I would try and break it down as best as possible but like I
Would always say, this is my opinion and you can always correct me where you think I’m wrong.
It is easy for a court of law to adjudge an election to be free but it is very difficult to prove that it is fair and that is the loophole election riggers are exploiting.
These loopholes come in the form of substituting card readers for manual just to perfect the rigging plan, scaring away opposition voters, top to bottom sequence of elections etc.
All these were some of the issues the electoral bill was meant to address but as expected, it wasn’t
Signed into law because it would minimize the chances of rigging the general elections in 2019, taking into cognizance how the existing law helped secure victory in the Gubernatorial elections in Osun, Ekiti and even in the presidential elections in 2015.
People that have been following elections would understand how it is being rigged but as earlier mentioned, the election would appear free but it would certainly be unfair which would be difficult to prove in a court of law and that’s why I sympathize with Sen Ademola Adeleke.
In a sane society, the sequence of elections should ordinarily be from the State House of Assembly & Governorship simultaneously, followed by the National Assembly and then the presidential elections but the top would always want to influence the bottom hence the reverse sequence
PMB’s refusal to assent to the bill is a clear indication that the election might be free to a large extent but would certainly not be fair. @AMADICHIMA @segalink @SegunShowunmi @PeterOkocha5 @duromadrid @feladurotoye @realFFK @OfficialPDPNig @DemolaRewaju @DemolaRewaju
