The number one cause of unemployment in Nigeria is our Educational curriculum which in my opinion is designed to produce Job seekers as against Job creators the country earnestly requires and it is further worsened by the stereotype which suggests that students
who are more vocationally inclined are academically deficient.

The long term plan to address this issue is to review our curriculum like i have always emphasized such that every student must learn a vocation/skill as a prerequisite to passing out from the secondary school.
Skills such as programming/coding, sport science, fashion designing, cinematography/music production, catering, carpentry, fish farming, Technology research, public speaking etc should be taught at the secondary school. These skills/vocation should be structured such that
it can make the students self sufficient upon completion at the Secondary school and at the same time could be further studied at the university. NABTEB/Technical schools should be converted to regular secondary schools in order to correct the stereotype that it is meant for
students who are not academically bright and our schools (Secondary and University) should be fully equipped with the resources (Human and material) to effectively train and impact the students.

The immediate plan to address unemployment in my opinion would be to convert
the one year mandatory Youth service to a skill acquisition/empowerment program for the corpers. Rather than deploying them to places of primary assignment, they should be camped and trained on the aforementioned skills as a prerequisite to being discharged from the youth service
while loans/grants should be given to students who have shown capacity to excel in their chosen vocation/skills. That is the easiest way to minimize the number of fresh graduates seeking for jobs that are readily not available or with absurd entry requirements.
Every country has its unique economic requirement/challenges and progressive leaders with foresight make use of their Educational curriculum to address these peculiar needs and challenges - Nigeria should not be an exception.
There was a time in Nigeria where we needed people
to fill up several vacant positions and our Educational curriculum was on hand to address it but as at today, we are in dire need of job producers which our current curriculum is not in tandem with. Policies are meant to be reviewed periodically to evaluate its performance
and i think our Educational policies are long overdue for a change. @segalink @fimiletoks @DrJoeAbah @OgbeniDipo @PeterOkocha5 @Kp_Oshotee @Omojuwa @obyezeks @AMADICHIMA
