Pictures of the Moribund skill acquisition centre in Ijegun Egba, Satellite Town area in Amuwo Odofin LGA Lagos state.
It’s bad enough that the Government have failed to realize that our current Educational curriculum in the country is designed to produce job seekers
as against job creators which we are in dire need of but it’s more pathetic that a centre that is supposed to serve as an empowerment platform for the youths was neglected to this dilapidated state with no effort from the Government to revive it.
In my opinion, the first step in correcting the problem of unemployment in the country is to inculcate vocational studies in the Secondary school syllabus and every student must learn a vocation or skill as a prerequisite to passing out of the secondary school
and the skill should be structured such that it can be further studied at the university to earn a degree. NABTEB should be integrated in the secondary school as against having a separate school for vocational training
in order to correct the stereotype that Vocational schools are meant for students who can’t do well academically.
Every Secondary school should have a vocational centre that is equipped with the necessary tools to be able to train students on different skills, vocation & crafts.
Of course it won’t happen overnight judging by the funds required to set it up but how about we having at least 2 skill acquisition centers in each local government to cater for the needs of the students until it is available at each public secondary school?
How about giving grants and low interest loans for the students that have shown capacity to excel in their respective skills? We don’t need rocket science to solve our problems, we just need the right people at the right place to make this country work.
If you agree that this skill acquisition center in Ijegun needs to be revived, kindly share until the Government does the needful. @duromadrid @Omojuwa @Kp_Oshotee @segalink @DrJoeAbah @OgbeniDipo @jimiagbaje @valburaimoh14 @AMADICHIMA @PeterOkocha5 @DemolaRewaju @followlasg
