The Real Brexit Debate is on C4 tomorrow at 7pm. A debate between Theresa May’s Deal, a softer Corbyn Brexit, a harder Mogg/Johnson Brexit and a PeoplesVote to Remain. It’s NOT a question time. It’s a debate - and I WILL be calling out factual “errors”.
The line-up is still TBC. If Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn decide they want to serve the public and appear the invitation remains open : but they both will have to debate the real options not just each other

I used to interview her all the time. Then things changed and it became normal for senior politicians to refuse to account for their actions and defend themselves more often than not. As Ken Clarke told me recently it’s one reason so many voters despise politicians
But it’s also why I respect those like Jacob Rees-Mogg who don’t run away from the argument. It’s easier - and kind of your job - as a backbencher without executive power but I think instinctively he’s one of those who will always take questions.
It started under Labour, got worse under the coalition (who would often just put the Lib Dems out for interviews), and now is worse than anytime I can remember. But I’ve always felt voters want to see their politicians - even those they support - facing the hard questions.

Important to remember as we go past the 90 days mark till March 29 and Brexit day that despite all the smoke & mirrors, noise & misinformation from both Labour Leadership & the Hard Brexiters there's only 3 options on the table:
2) those 3 #Brexit options are:
1) No deal - crash out & a mad scramble to get ourselves together
2) Theresa May's deal - rule taker not rule maker,horrendous fudge that tried to please everyone & ended up pleasing no-one
3) Remain - stay in the EU under exactly the same benefits
3) There are no other #Brexit options, no time to negotiate them & no interest from the EU27 in tweaking or changing the Brexit deal, anyone who says otherwise is simply lying - there is no "Better Brexit deal".

As we move towards a #PeoplesVote there's lots of talk about a "backlash" & consequences

We need to get real, all options will have similar consequences, because far right appeasement doesn't work

2) as can be seen from Mogg's angry response to his botched coup, we're not dealing with normal politicians on the Leave side but populist thugs & agitators, who will not be placated because they are driven by dissent & disruption.

The faux posh voice is just a front

- May's deal
- No deal

Yes, a 2nd ref and reversal will cause a backlash, but at least it would have democratic credibility, it would have been voted for and the majority, by definition, would be happy. Let's look at the other options.

Corbyn totally silent on a 700k march for a #PeoplesVote which his membership clearly want, and fought to get, as Labour policy

Whatever the reasons,he put *himself* in Geneva yesterday rather than in support of the membership

It's indefensible
If you try to, you're gaslighting
Of course you are entitled to say a #PeoplesVote is stupid, anti democratic, etc - what you can't say is that you are in a majority in the Labour party with that view
And therefore by giving Corbyn a free pass on this, you're saying it's fine for him to ignore the members
You can also say it's complicated, a political tightrope, a long game.

But all you're really saying is the views of the members are only listened to when they align with Corbyn's secret plans.
