NEW: Federal prosecutors in New York City signed an agreement with tabloid publisher American Media, Inc. in which it will not be prosecuted in exchange for cooperation in their investigation into payments made to keep a woman quiet about allegations against Donald Trump in 2016.
The feds’ deal also required AMI to admit that it made the payment in concert with Trump’s campaign and that it did so to keep Karen McDougal from talking publicly about the sexual relationship she says she had with Trump.
AMI also agrees to cooperate “in the future” with Justice Department investigators, the announcement said.

Previously, AMI had denied it had “caught and killed” the story to protect Trump.
