You might want to be following Houston's new socialist criminal court judge. Some powerful energy going on here.
The next year is very likely to be an endless series of mortified county officials saying "You can't do that!" and this guy saying "Watch me."
In all seriousness, he is definitely someone to watch because he is about to introduce major structural change to his misdemeanor court. The Houston Chronicle said: "Bynum’s courtroom could become a model for the rest of the county — if not the nation."

OK, time for my 2019 predictions thread....
1. Brexit. I have very low confidence in this, given the huge uncertainty and wide range of options but here goes:
We will go right to the edge of the A50 deadline, maybe even a little past it, but in the end May's deal will get voted through after an absolutely awful March
May's deal has two advantages - it starts with a large pool of votes, and it requires less steps to achieve than any of the other options.
With both Lab and Cons unwilling to co-ordinate on an alternative, and unwilling to work with the Other Side despite internal divides...

NEW: The 9th Circuit has upheld an injunction blocking Trump admin rules that exempted employers with religious and moral objections from the ACA's contraceptive care coverage requirement, BUT not on a nationwide basis — only for the five states that sued assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5626…
NB: There is *still* a nationwide preliminary injunction in effect blocking these rules issued by a federal judge in Pennsylvania — that's currently on appeal in the 3rd Circuit. Previously on that from @o_ema: buzzfeednews.com/article/emaoco…
@o_ema Also important to note: The Trump admin adopted new rules re: exemptions from the contraceptive care requirement in response to court injunctions, and those are set to take effect next year: buzzfeednews.com/article/emaoco… 9th Circuit said until that happens, though, it's not moot

Most editors aren't hands-on re: paper supplies so they aren't tweeting about it; that's the job at most houses for managing editorial and/or production. At small presses, though, we wear many hats.

New #PA Congressional map is pretty much the best one Democrats could have hoped for. At least 2 pickups in neutral environment, likely ability to win 11 in current D+6 environment. Post coming
PA redraw creates map that is almost entirely drawn from scratch. Huge shifts from 2016 plan all over the place. Dems favored to win 9 seats there in almost any national environment.
(big swings mostly from renumbering, but aggregate differences are clear)
