Still waiting on a GN proposal inspired by the “web sleuths” scene. (Those are the folks Patton Oswalt’s wife was one of; people online who basically dedicate their free time to solving unsolved and cold cases. And yes, there’s a scene. Of course there is!)
Maybe a teen girl who gets so preoccupied with her hometown’s Baby Jane Doe from 1971, she starts suspecting family members of the crime?? And maybe she’s RIGHT, but also, maybe her web sleuth pals are just reinforcing her delusions??? Ooooo.
Feels like something that could write itself, if you let it.
I’ve watched public opinion swing from “Everyone online is a liar/conman/pervert/serial killer, trust none of them” to “I read it on the internet so it must be true” in just 15 years. Might be fun to pick that apart in this context.

Louisiana makes no sense. Despite being a busy commercial and industrial hub packed to the brim with extensively-exploited natural resources, it's one of the poorest states in America, with the lowest quality of life indicators.

Here's a vid on why.
In a phrase? Industrial tax exemptions. Between 66% & 99%(!) of the properties owned by companies like Exxon & Dow in LA aren't taxed at all. Exemption requests, decided at the state level, are passed 99% of the time. There hasn't been a policy review of the process in +80 YEARS.
Louisiana is losing hundreds of millions, possibly more, in tax dollars every year to these exemptions. And as a result, when judged by factors like healthcare, infrastructure, educational opportunities and crime prevalence, LA comes DEAD LAST at 50. usnews.com/news/best-stat…

Oh god they're honestly all so interchangeable. But some common threads?

- No loss or death is their fault. It's a glitch, lag, or a stream sniper. Those are the only options.
- Everyone is their chat is an idiot and needs to shut up.
- Zero casual conversation. 100% sulking.
Some people have natural, easy charisma, and some people learn to be charismatic.

And some people just silently glower into their webcam for six hours when they're not playing with their phone or Yellin' At Vidya Gamez.
That Dad Mode streamer I liked from yesterday is on vacation, and I am feeling the loss.

More #Fallout4, and the construction of The Sanctuary Museum of Pre-War America.

Made a "children's toys" display case, and a "sports and leisure" display. Fishing rod won't fit in the latter, sadly.
As I mentioned before, the Vault-Tec rep is in Sanctuary and assigned to work the cafe, so the restaurant on the second floor is completely functional! Every evening after work, the residents congregate up here to eat and socialize. I need to finish the building & add furniture.
I also made the rep his own house; an old bus behind the museum. Unlike most of the settlement's living quarters, he has it all to himself, cuz again, Dude Needed A Win.

Some tips on access-centered event/program organizing/planning (some are mine; many I learned from other fabulous folks):
(1) When you put information about the event online, whether on (a) a website, (b) in email announcements, or (c) social media, only include images if you include alt-text and text-only captions.
(2) Don't rely on online/email/social media to get the word out.

Call people too. Many comrades with intellectual disabilities strongly prefer phones, even if they can use the internet+email. (And many can't+are actively deprived of access/training.)

First re: strategy - don't over promise… that just leads to regret. So this is where the 💯%RE thing is a big mistake, which let's face it is fundamentally about 0% nuclear. And my take is that we need nuclear *with* renewables to make this work ultimately. 2/x @simonahac
There's other stuff: other techs, non-electricity emissions,… But clearly nuclear is the big bogeyman here so I'll focus on that. + the next decade or two will make clear(er) the difference in results b/w those that insist on effectively only relying on renewables vs those… 3/x
…using nuclear+renewables+whatever-else. i.e. California vs New Jersey with New York in the middle somewhere.
This strategy then is a long play. And we must recognise there will be "collateral damage" like X% loss of the Great Barrier Reef, where X>10 4/x

I've been thinking a lot about falls from grace, embarrassment, being called out/taking criticism, and social rituals and have some thoughts that have finally coalesced.
Bear with me (or mute the thread if you don't want it clogging up your feed, because it's going to be long and we're doing detours through a bit of neuroscience, sociology, Leviticus, and Depeche Mode).
So there are two conversations that I've been hearing a lot, generally offline, in my circles. 1) why don't people just APOLOGIZE when they screw up? and 2) we've got to find healthier ways to deal with people screwing up.
