We are glad you're feeling better now and you were able to seek and find help to get you there. Again thank you for opening up about such a sensitive topic and doing so in a relatable way that can be easily understood. #ThursdayThoughts #ThursdayMotivation #MentalHealthMatters
Mental health issues is no respecter of persons regardless of who or what we are and millions of Nigerians suffer this harsh reality every single day. Lack of knowledge, information and resources make it a million times worse. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #WakeUpNigeria
And being a deeply religious nation is a contributing factor for people running from pillar to post, from one church or pastor to one baba or spiritualist, seeking for help against one village person or demon somewhere. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters
When a diagnosis and treatment is the basic help needed and would go a long way. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #MentalHealthAwareness #WakeUpNigeria #NoChillDisembaa
For the sake of clarity, mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #WakeUpNigeria
Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #WakeUpNigeria
Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry.
Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse.
Family history of mental health problems.

Some early warning signs are:
Eating or sleeping too much or too little.
Pulling away from people and usual activities.
Having low or no energy.
Feeling numb or like nothing matters.
Feeling helpless or hopeless.

Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, on edge, angry, upset, worried, or scared.
Smoking, drinking, or using drugs more than usual.
Yelling or fighting with family and friends.

Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships.
Having persistent thoughts and memories you can't get out of your head
Hearing voices or believing things that are not true

Thinking of harming yourself or others.
Inability to perform daily tasks like taking care of your kids or getting to work or school.

When the AIDS epidemic broke out, government agencies and NGOs campaigned massively and went all out to create awareness, dispel myths and stigma attached to it and provided information about self care and treatments. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #WakeUpNigeria
They have also created awareness about other sicknesses and diseases such as cancer, malaria, etc. But almost nothing has been said and done about mental health issues. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria #NoChillDisembaa
In their defence, some might say if not attacked quickly, these illnesses could have wiped out a significant amount of the human population and in such a short period of time. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria #NoChillDisembaa
But what is life and what is living? Should we for the sake of preserving human life negate the whole point of our existence which is to live life? #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria #NoChillDisembaa
Should we suffer needlessly and unnecessarily and just long enough to populate this world and then diminish? Isn't living our best life the focal point of living life? If we cannot think or reason properly, how do we hope to achieve this? #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters
Something that seems so insignificant is the most important factor of all. Just because something is not seen does not mean it's not there. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria #NoChillDisembaa #MentalHealthAwareness
Over 40% of Nigerians suffer from one mental illnesses or another and no it does not mean they are mad or crazy. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #MentalHealthAwareness #NoChillDisembaa #WakeUpNigeria
It just means they are suffering & doing so silently since most people with mental health issues do not even know that is what they have & think something is horribly wrong with them & they are not normal. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria
And even if they are aware, they almost, always do not know where to get help and do not want to be stigmatized. Which can be exceedingly dangerous. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #MentalHealthAwareness #WakeUpNigeria
A lot of people suffering from mental health issues are not fully functioning in their full capacities and are barely productive to themselves and their communities. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria
Some commit suicide feeling hopeless, helpless, dehumanized and unworthy. And no it's not a new thing and there's no such thing like it's unAfrican. It happens here a lot, family members and friends are just quiet about it because of the stigma attached to it. #ThursdayThoughts
But we ALL deserve to be healthy and happy. We ALL deserve to live our best lives. #ThursdayThoughts #MentalHealthMatters #ThursdayMotivation #WakeUpNigeria #MentalHealthAwareness
