Out of the people in my network running successful lifestyle online businesses, I think around 50% or more are simply running a blog in a niche that they have monetized over the course of a decade. There’s something to be said for consistent quality content and traffic x10 years.
Just something to be mindful of. In the maker community there’s a lot of “get Rich quick” or “build something cool” mentality. When in the end, success can be as simple as writing lots of good content in a niche that you love.
Of course, this is “simple” in model only. Execution of this takes years and years of commitment. That’s probably the part where most people fail. The folks I know doing this made very little for years... but then each of them had a hockey stick moment after grinding it out.
If you’re young and reading this, give it some thought. It might be a bit late for me to capitalize on this advice, but if you’re in your 20s there’s still plenty of time to keep a content-led side project ticking over for 5-10years to see what happens.
