Hey @ABCNetwork I won’t be watching your New Year’s Eve show because @JennyMcCarthy is one of your hosts.

Her opinion on vaccinations:
“If you ask a parent of an autistic child if they want the measles or the autism, we will stand in line for the f***ing measles.”
Since it’s been proven that vaccines DON’T cause autism, people who continue to promote this nonsense are actually harming kids who can’t be or are too young to be vaccinated.

She tries to white wash it now, saying she only wants vaccines to be “safe”.

Over the past 20 years, childhood vaccines have saved the lives of 732,000 U.S. children & prevented more than 300 million kids from getting sick, according to the CDC.

They are safe and effective.
So @ABCNetwork -Don’t normalize the anti-vaxxer movement by having McCarthy on your New Years program.

Let’s bring in 2019 with the truth.

The one autism & parenting approach I want folks to absorb for 2019: if your #autistic child is violent or aggressive then that usually means something is really really wrong with them, health or environment-wise, and you really need to figure out what it is—for everyone’s sake.
It can be really, really hard to figure out the source of an autistic kid’s (or adult’s) extreme distress. But you know what makes it harder? People assuming aggression is "because of autism,” & not because something is wrong. And then so much avoidable suffering happens.
This is why you don’t want to listen to #autism “experts" who recommend “extinction,” punishments or aversives for kids who are aggressive, without even bothering to figure out why they might be in pain or other distress—because that is ignoring/punishing someone who needs help.

Hello. I'm autistic. So is our fine son. Let's look at a school day...
Generalising throughout.
First, a school day starts with a lot of cleaning-of-child (sensory pain).
And a lot of getting dressed into clothes that feel like sandpaper or barbed wire on the skin. ...ctd...
Then, there's the peril of the school playground with screaming, shouting, chatting. It blends into one hellish noise for the autistic child, unable to see faces to identify who is who, & can't read face expressions fast enough. So socialising becomes impossible & scary. ../ctd

1. Have your lesson stick to a rigid routine as far as possible. This is good as it arguably is good for all kids, but is a huge benefit to #autistic student. At primary, have a clear daily routine if possible. /1
2. Only have posters and displays if they are actually useful, and don't make them too 'busy'! Simple colour schemes too, rather than rainbows, and if may be worth seating #autistic children away from particularly distracting or detailed displays. /2
