This is the time of year when lots of people do a bunch of charitable giving, so I thought we’d share some organizations we support, all of whom do great work...
Both Partners in Health and Doctors Without Borders do dangerous, vital work in places that need it most.

The Adaptive Design Association creates ingenious, low-cost life-changing adaptive equipment for people with disabilities. (Full disclosure it’s run by my aunt, who won a MacArthur Genius Grant for her work.)

The Solar Electric Light Fund brings sustainable, carbon-neutral electricity to energy-poor regions around the world. Arguably there is nothing more important for the future of the planet than bring zero-emission energy to the world’s poorest.

I’m honored to host the Osborne Association’s annual fundraising breakfast and always come away inspired. They provide a range of services to and advocacy on behalf of the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated. Beautiful, life-affirming work.

That same spirit of solidarity animates the great work of The Missions Continues, which engages veterans in community service projects. You can’t not feel hopeful when around their work.

A few local ones: the Red Hook Iniative and Brooklyn Community Services both do vital work with communities in need in my current home borough of Brooklyn.

In Chicago, The Rebuilding Exchange (@RXChicago) creates a market for sustainable re-use and waste reduction, and is chock full of all kinds of amazing stuff.

RAINN.org runs the indispensable national sexual assault hotline and provides indispensable services, support and advocacy for survivors.
I could go on! There are others, but feel free to chime in below with your own suggestions...
One more: GiveDirectly.org does exactly what it sounds like: gives money directly to the extreme poor in the global south.
