Great question Daniel but might I add another? What do you think WE, as readers/watchers of news, need to do better in consuming and understanding media? Here is a thread of some suggestions. #NewsWise
For the purpose of this thread Media refers to Newspapers, TV News, Radio News, Social Media. #NewsWise
1. Don't get your news from one source. #NewsWise
2. Seek out the truth! This means getting your news from more than one source, seeking out opinions that may be opposite to your own and considering them and having a healthy dose of cynicism of all media. #NewsWise
3. Realize that more than ever all media are now driven more by profit (demand) before morals and ethics. All media. If you think a populist is being given more of a platform than they deserve...that is because of demand. WE drive that demand! #NewsWise
4. Your social media has, with no doubt at all, been targeted in one way or another by those who purposely have been composing posts of racism, hate, xenophobia, fear and lies. What are you sharing/re-posting? Is it really the truth? #NewsWise
5. Learn the differences between editorial opinion and news. It used to be very apparent...those lines are now very blurry. #NewsWise
6. The main stream media is not the enemy of the people. #NewsWise
7. FAKE NEWS and MISTAKES IN REPORTING are two very different things. #NewsWise
8. News is driven by agendas. This is actually healthy. People are paid lots of money to try and convince media to convince you that their cause is true. It's not up to these folks to tell the truth, That's up to media. It's on US to demand this and see that it is done. #NewsWise
9. The media is not the "enemy of the people". They should be the "voice of the people". #NewsWise
10. Use your voice! Demand honesty. Patronize good reporting. The truth IS out there. #NewsWise
We have a very important role to play in news and its dissemination. It is OUR responsibility to demand and seek the truth. The old adage "Fool me once...shame on you, fool me twice shame on me" has never been more appropriate. #NewsWise
