Shout out to all the other founders that deeply empathize with this article. You’re not alone.

@runvc "There’s a lot of pressure put on founders to stay steady in times of company turmoil. As a result, they are often alone when they need others the most.”

Call me soft but I’ve cried many times over the past 5 years. Fortunately I have amazing friends and a strong SO to lean on.
@runvc "Founders blur the line between themselves and their companies in such a way that company failures often are felt as personal failures.”

There are some positives to this but when things aren’t going well, founders may question their self-worth.
"The second most stressful time for founders is right before they are able to secure a major fundraise; the most stressful time is right afterward.”

There is no finish line and founders can’t really quit*. They have to keep running.

*Technically, they can but it’s complicated
I posit that freelancers (a form of entrepreneurship) face many of these same challenges, but we don’t talk about it as much despite how quickly the freelance market is growing. Already ~50% of millennials are freelancers in the U.S.
But don’t let this bum you out too much. Starting a company is exhilarating and rewarding.

Enjoy the high highs, prepare for the low lows.
As @AndyTheGiant points out, founders aren’t the only “lucky" ones to go through many of these challenges of course:
