hey extremely online white folks: in 2019 let's challenge ourselves not to use GIF reacts featuring Black folks. it may seem small compared to the anti-racist work we should ALREADY be doing, but it's a real way that blackface and appropriation can show up in our personal brands.
as a bonus, being more mindful of the ridiculous variety of expressive nuance POC bring to visual media really highlights how much our dominant culture depends on trafficking that expression in the construction of certain kinds of cachet. and that's a good thing to keep in mind.
sometimes it means the PERFECT response to a situation is out of reach. it really sucks! it's too bad comedy standards are so low for white people and our society treats non-white people so terribly that it can't just be fair use under cultural sharing. maybe we should fix that.
