/ Here we are, 2 years in, and the press still hasn’t properly addressed the fact that the President of the United States lies to the American people on a daily basis. It should literally be the only thing talked about on air, the only questions asked of Trump & his surrogates.
/ There is no national conversation to be had, no policy discussion to be hammered out, no path forward as a country when we as citizens, to whom the press are beholden, simply cannot trust the words coming from our gov’t. And it’s not treated with the seriousness it deserves.
/ Every single day, more lies are blasted out over the airwaves to an increasingly disillusioned public, and the press just puts another tic mark on the wall to add it to the count, shrug their shoulders, and then go right back to treating our government as a horse race.
/ Lying to the American people used to be a scandal of Presidency-ending proportion. Officials were fired or resigned in disgrace. Consequences were demanded. Where is that now? Who in the press are standing up and saying that we can’t abide a President who lies to the people?
/ Nothing else matters until we stop and give the central conceit of this entire administration, that truth and facts do not matter and that lying to the American people is acceptable, its proper due. And its proper due is treating the lies as an attack on the people.
/ Press, do your job. Stop just counting the lies. Occasionally bringing them up to a Trump official, only to allow them to pivot to a “yes, but” answer, is not acceptable. The content isn’t the issue, it’s the lying itself. “Why is the President lying?” “Why is that okay?”
End/ Everything else is filler and distraction. It’s the lies, stupid. That’s the story, the only story, that matters, because everything this President does is built around those lies and the daily deception of the American people. Enough.
