i decided to play with pygame a little. i created a sprite subclass, instantiated it and put it in a sprite list, and when i kill() it it never gets garbage collected so the program is instantly uselessly memory-leaky
this is 100% of my experiences trying to do anything interesting with code. i immediately hit a brick wall like this and i have no idea where to begin figuring it out, or if the helper library is fundamentally broken
i swear to god the only time in my life i ever got a *single inch* into this is when the only library i was using was SDL. if i use anything fucking else, i just spend endless hours trying to figure out the bizarre mentality of someone elses library instead of doing actual work
pushing pixels is straightforward but trying to reverse engineer someone's "framework" is incompatible with my brain
i tried *not* instantiating for every new bullet object, reusing a single sprite, and i can't get it to start rendering again after the first time i kill() or delete() it. sprite list add() seems to do nothing. i have no idea what's wrong.
i love it because the thing that gets me thinking about this is always "well let's just get a character running around and maybe make something they can interact with and then kinda doodle from there" and four hours later i'm still looking at a blank screen because nothing works
it's just not possible for me to doodle or sketch, and if you can't doodle then you can't create. it's just impossible.
what the fuck do other people have that i don't, why am i *incapable* of this. every single attempt i've ever made ended the same way, deadass frozen by absolute fundamentals that everyone else seems to breeze past so fast they never even have to ask questions
programming tutorials: ok so now that you've done a = 2; b = 2; print a + b; you're ready to go ahead and draw the rest of the fucking owl
me: guess i'll read a book and dream about a life where i get to be like 2/3 of my acquaintances :)
