A service I provide as a "marketing consultant" is really to just help people think clearly about what they're trying to say. I also do this for writers as an "editor".

In both cases it's really about sitting with the question, "What are you really trying to do / say?"
Very often this can be reduced to

"Who are you, exactly?"

"Where are you right now, exactly?"

"Where are you trying to go, exactly?"

If you lack precision on any of these fronts, you'll have a tough time trying to go where you (think you) want to go
Usually the fact that you're trying to make/do/write something already implies that you have some vague, maybe-subconscious sense that something needs making/doing/writing

It's very helpful to articulate these things out loud and be clear with yourself about them
It sounds obvious when you say it out loud, but people often get lost in the weeds:

If you don't know where you're trying to go, it's pretty unlikely that you'll ever get there
there is a lot of truth in the simple statement "life is a journey"

every piece of content, every product, every book, seminar, article

can often be simplified to "get person X from point A to point B"
take person X from point A...

@zenpencils @Oglaf Going back to "helping people figure out what they really want to say"

I also find it very helpful to ask, "so what's the backbone here?" What's the line of action? What's the heart of the story, the lede, the most fundamental, critical thing?
@zenpencils @Oglaf and one of the most fun things to do any time you get a new way of seeing things is to turn it on itself.

what's the backbone of my twitter account? what's the heart of the story here? I think it's this:
