The availability of abortion coverage in Marketplace plans and Medicaid varies by state. 26 states ban abortion coverage in Marketplace plans. 35 States and DC do not cover abortion in their Medicaid programs beyond limited exceptions.
4 States - CA, NY, OR & WA - require state regulated plans to include abortion coverage. S.109 would disqualify all plans in these states from receiving any federal funds, including premium credits and cost-sharing reductions kff.org/womens-health-…

Another difference #ACA makes!

2010-12: With my Cobra ending, in GA I stay covered via obscure HIPPA protections. My only choice: Celtic Insurance owned by Centene Corp. For my Humira drug, Celtic makes me pay tens thousands up front as pay first & manually snail mail claims 1/
To make matters worse, this insurance takes up to 9 months to reimburse me as I float tens of thousands dollars via savings or credit cards. Other times, insurance says submit my bills (as claims) from CVS Specialty Pharmacy instead, but then CVS hounds me for unpaid bills! 2/
While all this is happening, insurance has no transparency in their online portal or snail mail of the processing, status, or even the existence of my claims! I'm completely in the dark, I have to call & call & call this insurance's customer service representatives for info 3/

NEW analysis: Rather than continuing to go without insurance, *4.2 million* uninsured people could get an #ACA bronze plan for FREE

We estimate 27% of uninsured potential Marketplace shoppers are eligible for a bronze plan with $0 premiums in 2019. kff.org/health-reform/…
In #Delaware, #Iowa, #Nebraska, and #Utah, almost 1 in 2 currently uninsured people who could be buying Marketplace coverage will be able to get a $0 bronze plan in 2019.

But, will they even know this is an option?
Bronze plans have high deductibles & many ppl are better off w/ Silver

But the math is simple: $0 bronze >> uninsured

Bronze plans have $0 preventive services, often a few Dr visits pre-deductible, & make it more likely to get non-emergency care even if you can't pay deductible

2/Of 12 regular appropriations bills for exec branch, 5 were enacted in Sept, covering majority/fedl em’ees &/fedl spending. Employees/those depts—including some /largest including DoD, VA, HHS &Labor—are protected from shutdown threat bc full-year funding for them is in place.
3/There’s a bill wrapping together 4/the other measures—covering Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, HUD, the IRS, related agencies, & various science, financial regulatory & central management agencies—remains pending in a House-Senate conference.

2/ First of all, notice how in 1993, “community rating” (i.e., not being allowed to charge people more based on their health status) was considered a HORRIBLE thing.
3/ Cut to 2018: 8 yrs after the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, 89% of the public thinks it’s important NOT to charge people more for their health insurance based on their health status. EIGHTY-NINE PERCENT. This is the real legacy of the #ACA.

1/26/17: Administration stops planned ads for the final week of open enrollment for marketplace health coverage. As a result, 400K+ are not enrolled.

McConnell filed cloture tonight for four immigration amendments, setting up votes in this order:

• McCain-Coons (DACA+border)
• Toomey (sanctuary cities)
• Rounds-King (DACA+security/wall)
• Grassley (Trump’s four pillars)
A few observations:

1. Democrats’ amendments are both bipartisan. Republicans’ amendments are both partisan.

2. Toomey’s sanctuary city cutoff is pure election-year politics to trap Dems. Not even Trump is asking for this with DACA.

3. None of the four appear to have 60 votes.
4. Trump’s plan will be voted on last, which gives McConnell the option to make a “if you really want to fix DACA this is your final chance” pitch. Sets up the blame game between now and November.
