As this got some pick-up, some caution: Grieve am. reported today is leaked text; might still be work-in-progress. MPs can't table ams. to PM's main motion for 29/1 until she's tabled it on 21/1. Exact what/how of 29/1 debate may well only be clear that AM
OK, to pick this up again: Grieve on R4 #bbcbh now has said he & Nick Boles are "working along exactly the same lines" to give HoC control of its own business for 1 day during which it might debate motion(s) &/or legislation. 1/
re: majorities, Grieve confirms what was in yesterday's leaked Buzzfeed text i.e. under his plan the 300 MPs is the no. needed to get a motion on the order paper *not* the no. needed to pass anything, which would remain a maj. as normal. 2/
And Grieve points out that various people/bodies other than the gov already have the ability, under certain circs, to get a motion on the Order Paper. 3/
E.g. I'd highlight new pilot procedure whereby Liaison C'tee gets control of a Backbench Business C'tee slot on floor of HoC. Under this proc., on 26/4/18 HoC technically called for gov to have CU with EU as neg. objective but motion passed w/o division 'cos gov didn't contest 4/
