if it helps people understand what's going on, one way I thought of thinking of it is that, on 29 Jan, one HoC majority voted for, say, 'blue'. And a different HoC maj voted for 'yellow'. Today's gov motion said 'green'. But there isn't a majority for that.
one of the oddities of the situation is that 'green' (in this analogy) - i.e. a position including *both* the Spelman anti-'no-deal' amendment *&* the Brady anti-backstop amendment - *is* the official view of the House: it's the resolution passed on 29 Jan....
... but on 29 Jan the motion-as-amended wasn't put to a division - it just went 'on voices' after the Brady amendment was passed.
