“What if the sources are just wrong?” Brian Stelter asks Buzzfeed's Anthony Cormier. “They’re not. They’re not. I’m confident.” Cormier was reluctant to discuss sourcing in any detail, but here's why I think he's so justifiably confident. (1/3)
Cormier and Leopold have been covering the story for a long time. In May 2018, they published 'The Crazy True Story of Trump Moscow'. That story revealed many details that were subsequently supported by Cohen’s guilty plea in Nov, 2018. Now look at the sourcing: two FBI agents(!)
Now listen to this interview with Cormier from earlier this week; it's pretty clear his sources are the two FBI agents who worked on the collusion investigation before Mueller. So, both the story and the denial are coming from the FBI?! That's weird. #TickTock
Let's try this. It wasn't just Cohen, he was working on the project with Felix Sater. Senate Intel Committee also interviewed Sater for hours with questions about the Trump Moscow project. So.. Hi, @felixsater! Do you know if Trump asked Michael to lie? And did he ask you to lie?
Anthony Cormier and Jason Leopold published a story on Felix Sater, 'The Asset', in March 2018. "He still operates as a source for the bureau, according to two current FBI agents."
When Cormier appeared on the Rachel Maddow show on 11/29/18, he said he had spoken to the two FBI agents that day and they told him; "Slow down, we're still working it."
I'm trying to figure out how long Cormier and Leopold have been relying on information provided by these "two FBI agents". This article claiming Putin aide Mikhail Lesin didn't die by accident is from July 2017. Same FBI agents? buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonl…
In March 2018, Leopold and Cormier reported that FBI was in possession of a secret report asserting that Lesin was beaten to death by hired thugs. That report was written by... Christopher Steele. buzzfeednews.com/article/jasonl…
