/ 17 days after I flew out to Baltimore to help my dad, newly diagnosed with AML, I'm flying back for at least a week, and I feel I owe sharing how great everyone has been.
/ First, the docs/nurses/techs at @UMMC @EastonHospital and our Eastern Shore hematology group have been awesome. It's a complicated diagnosis/treatment, and it has been hard to figure it out re rural hospital but kudos to everyone.
/ Friends and former coworkers of my dad's, organized in large part by @dbelt50, have written the most amazing notes or encouragement and offers of help. The @NatGeo alumni group is amazing.
/ My friends, including some who probably don't like to be shouted out on here, have been great with everything from sending me an ipad for him, to babysitting Milo, to offering to step up into the breach. You're the best.
/ And random people have been so great. Nadia, the manager of @NandosUSA in Bmore, and her staff have not only fed me but cheered me. Mary, a Lyft driver came 45 min out of her way to return my purse. Charles at the @AppleSupport store in Towson, was a total lifesaver.
/ The folks at the @CBMMorg maked giving up a boat my dad built, so as to clear an easier way for them to get to docs safely, a joy, really.
/ My coworkers at @MotherJones have stepped in heroically to help get the new issue out and just cover my for my ghosting.
/ @cb of course, kept everything humming at home, even while I was gone, Milo got sick, and the usual chaos. Again with big props to @lizaramrayka @smfrogers and others not #onhere.
/ Anyway, we've been helped, gracefully and kindly, from folks from every walk of life and every racial group and so many with troubles of their own. I've never had a more resolute belief in Do Unto Others. Thank you everybody.
/ Just wanted to say all this as, yet again, our country is rightfully focusing on those who are hateful and stingy and blinkered that many many many people are none of those things.
/ And finally so many people who are #onhere have giving me advice, both general and highly specific, and encouragement and well wishes. And puppy photos, which do a lot when you're low. I thank you all.
