I don't want to hear another word about "responsible Alaska gun culture." Not another damn word. My husband & daughter were in a coffee shop today in Soldotna. Elderly man had out a gun, showing it to his friends under the table, saying it wasn't loaded. Then it went off.
He shot the floor, while sitting no more than 3 feet from my daughter. One of his friends was bleeding from floor shrapnel. Thank all I hold sacred that gun was pointed away from my girl! She ended up with pulverized-floor dust on her computer. My husband couldn't hear.
The man acted like it was no big thing. Baristas called 911. His friends, also elderly, left before the ambulance arrived, taken the wounded woman with them. The man LIED to the police, saying it discharged from his holster. Bullshit. I hope he faces charges.
All other witnesses said he was playing with the gun when it went off. All other witnesses heard him say it wasn't loaded. EVERY GUN IS LOADED, YA DIMBULB!
So next time one of the Second Amendment folks or one of the Alaska gun culture folks wants to talk about responsible gun ownership, do me a favor. Miss me with that shit. You are wrong. My daughter is upset. My husband is pissed. We're all lucky no one was killed by that fool.
These people are clearly incapable of policing themselves, and we have some of the least restrictive gun laws in the country here in #Alaska. It is time for common sense reform. @aklegislature you need to take action immediately. #GunControlNow @MomsDemand /end
