Had our first event @placeholdervc’s Manhattan office last night, a full-house to discuss @MakerDAO!
Started w/ a presentation from @alexhevans on @MakerDAO’s network adoption (he’ll share graphs soon), and then shifted to opening/closing CDPs, as well as lending $DAI to @compoundfinance to earn 2.5% (0.5% annual fee to take out loans in DAI, earn 3% by lending it on compound)
Vibe was so different from 2017. No #ICOs pitched in personal intros, didn’t hear price mentioned once through the night, and the audience members were well studied on @MakerDAO w/ sharp questions for the team.

2/ If you’re a VC focused on #crypto, chances are you hold #bitcoin as the reserve asset of the ecosystem.

Grin is teaching us that models like what we've seen with $DCR & $ZEC, where 10% and 20% (respectively) of mined assets are reserved for core development and resources, is the best combo of fair *and* sustainable that #crypto has today.
What's great about funding models that come straight from mining is the team only accrues purchasing power, and the treasury of the network only grows, if they create value in the native #cryptoasset.

Different from an #ICO where majority of the money comes in up front.

1/ An accidental change in fund structure doesn’t mean the mindset changed.
2/ To be clear, it's a good thing for #crypto that more people are structuring as VCs than HFs, as the incentives are better geared for long term value creation.

Hence this prediction last year 👇
3/ But I don’t see how an investor that profits from going long & short (many HFs) can later claim to sincerely support a #cryptonetwork over many years, as a VC should.

Last night’s White House press statement about releasing unredacted information on the Russia investigation was a doozy. Only 139 words, but an awful lot to unpack, with lots of reasons to be concerned. I’ll try to walk through them here. bit.ly/2MFPZo9 1/x
First, what does the WH say they’re going to do? 1) Release info from a few pages of the 4th Carter Page FISA; 2&3) Release never-before-seen info from FBI interviews in the RU investigation; and 4) Release unredacted text messages from specific individuals at FBI and DOJ. 2/x
All four raise the spectre of creating a false narrative thru selective release of cherry-picked info, and risk damaging vital natsec interests and govt norms in the process. However, they raise these issues in slightly different ways, so it helps to break this mish-mash down.3/x
