Went swing dancing tonight for the first time since...2005, maybe? I used to be deeeeeep in that scene, but apparently it’s 100% turnover since then😅

HOWEVER - many many more same gender dance partners than there used to be.

So overall: vast improvement. The kids are alright👍🏻
Classic chromed ‘Samba’ dance shoes, circa 2003. Still functional.

Their inhabitant, perhaps not so much 😅
Also during the jam, the hosts asked if people were leading, following, or switching, rather than assuming based on perceived gender ❤️❤️❤️

For the most part, I really value the conversations I have around my threads. Getting feedback is an integral part of the writing process for me.

People make interesting recommendations, tell me about other directions they’ve seen that thought process go in, etc. Mostly A++++!
But there’s a particular variety of entitlement that sometimes crops up that I find reeeeally grating.

I’m not talking about the braindead replies from the troll packs - those are easily giffed & muted, and I could do that all day😅
The ones that really annoy me are the men who are clearly used to women being VERY INTERESTED in how they feel. Like I had one yesterday who said my thread “had a promising start but then disappointed me.”

My dude....I do not give a single fuck about your disappointment level

I talk a lot about how you can’t be a great developer without great communication skills, but I don’t think people grok how _directly_ your communication skills are reflected in your codebase. Let me give you an example.
Let’s say you’re working in a legacy codebase that, in places, resembles a house on Hoarders (BEFORE they clean it out).
These types of codebases are distressingly common. They’re so full of STUFF that you can hardly move around. To get your work done, you’ve got little goat trails of understanding running through it, like the narrow space between piles of junk in an overcrowded living room.

The Evidence Obtained Outside Cameras will not show any evidence of ‘tempering’ but other than license plates of dozens of diplomatic cars (Many with tinted windows-large trunks) with related time stamp, drivers Info, model/year: Nothing.
#Turkish Intel-Investigative Bodies also have the list of all Diplomatic & Private Saudi & “other significant’ Planes in #Turkey for the period of ‘interest.’ Many of the Target airports have their own security cameras & related evidence.

I did something similar to this 5 years ago, in anticipation of EC & @theroots' Wise Up Ghost LP, on tumblr.

(You can still find all those posts if you look, although a lot of the YouTube links etc are now dead ends. It was 40 Days Of EC then, so for 2018 I'm upping it to 45.)
Mostly I will be going chronologically from the early years right up to the present, but it feels right to start out with Costello's 2002 song, "45."

We've seen so many fiction movies and documentaries that at the end of the day have one common message. That the devil doesn't exist. Now think of it this way..if the devil doesn't exist, does God exist ? MAYBE this is why more people are becoming atheist.. Not that I'm judging.

In total seriousness, finishing a book about Kafka and Prague in the 1920s while watching our national disaster unfold was chilling.
Looking back at the 1920s from a post-WWII perspective makes it all seem so fated. Even small events can be tinged with an inexorable dread (even without the Kafka part). BUT THAT WASN'T WHAT WAS CHILLING.
what was so heartbreaking was that it DIDN'T seem inevitable. So many people were working in so many different arenas and walks of life for a different, more hopeful outcome.
