1/ Thread on my piece yesterday regarding Venezuela. The reason I've been tweeting a lot about it and writing on it is because it's easy to let emotions about Maduro or socialism cloud the real picture, and the real story is plain and simple geopolitical ambitions.
2/ Russia and China are very involved in Venezuela. China's financing the nation to the tune of over $40 billion. Venezuela has the largest proved oil reserves in the world. If Maduro is tossed out in favor of a U.S. puppet, China's suddenly in a tricky situation. Leverage gone.
3/ China consumes a lot of oil and doesn't produce that much. Its relationship with Venezuela is certainly much about natural resources. So the move by the U.S. is partly driven by taking out a key Chinese ally in the Western Hemisphere and making it a client state of USA.

1/ Quick thread on my thoughts about inflation, over the last ten years, and also over the next 5-10.
2/ A decade ago, when the Fed embarked on its QE experiment to further enrich plutocrats, many of us (myself included) lazily assumed that all the money printing would cause a lot of widespread inflation by now, which would ultimately stop the insanity in its tracks.
3/ Personally, I was a little late asking the key question which ended up making all the difference. In whose hands would all the printed money end up, and what would this mean for inflation? Turns out the money ended up in the hands of already very rich, older people.

1/ Quick thread on yesterday's post titled: "Can You Time Crazy?"

The piece is based on a conversation I had with a friend who was a PM at a very large hedge fund back in February 2015. He sent me an article about how Nestle bonds had started trading at a negative yield.
2/ Of course, the idea of negative yields was nuts and it was at that moment I knew it could get much, much crazier before it all ended. I sent him a response back. Here's the relevant part:
3/ I wrote:

"Once you enter certifiably 'crazy' territory it becomes almost impossible to bet against crazy until it is obvious it is all unraveling. Once in crazy territory it can easily get more crazy since crazy has already been established."
