Arrogance of Tories, laid bare. Why all the Brexit drama when you can just fill your celar (sic) with goods and ride out the blips? Well, maybe because most people have neither cellars nor the means to fill them. One thing being a member of the elite, quite another to rub it in.
But then what would you expect of someone who lives in a country pile significant enough to merit its own Wikipedia entry?

So instead of boasting about being prepared against the kind of weather that kills homeless people, perhaps you could spend a little more time thinking about the fact that Brexit preparedness is only needed because of the breakneck pursuit of hard Brexit by your own party?
Because nobody's rushing to fill so much as a contingency biscuit tin due to the UK's membership of the EU.

Rebel Tories about to test the classic definition of stupidity again: instead of backing Yvette Cooper's Brexit amendment, they're likely to be mollified by a non-binding fingers-crossed promise by Theresa May that she will make meaningful changes to her deal in the next 2 weeks.
The only wafer-thin silver lining is that the closer we get to no deal, the more the pressure will ratchet up for the rational wing of the Tories to break away to save the UK. So it's going to be gritted teeth and sleepless nights for another 4-6 weeks.
Come early March, we will be close enough to see the bullet down the barrel of the gun we're pointing at our own head. That's when all normal rules of politics go out of the window. Because, no matter what twists and turns Brexit takes, there will never be a majority for no deal.

Only about 10% of all the generic medicines consumed in the UK are actually manufactured here, according to expert testimony from representatives of the pharmaceutical sector to the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee in December 2017.

(Note: the original date of the testimony's pretty much irrelevant, since they also state it would take a decade to build up the UK's domestic production of such medicines.)
"We do not have the process capability in the UK to manufacture all medicines in the UK. We do not have the plants. These plants cost tens, sometimes hundreds, of millions of pounds to invest in."

Gina Miller's lawyers have stated it could take 7 years before the UK would be ready to trade on WTO terms after a no-deal Brexit. (These are the same lawyers that trounced the Government previously.)

So even though WTO terms are really a disaster (much much worse than portrayed by Brexiters such as members of the ERG) we wouldn't even have that flimsy safety net in place after Brexit Day. We would have nothing whatsoever, a complete trade dead zone.
Meanwhile, Economists for Free Trade, the biggest unicorn farmers in the business, claim there is "nothing to fear". Of course there might be one thing to fear at least: the fact that they're almost certainly wrong.

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.

1. I am told I should welcome the efforts of @betterbrexit. I'm not impressed. It's too little, far too late and ill thought out. EEA might well be a large part of the solution but it is not a miracle solution and moving into it from the position of being an EU member is not easy
2. To maintain frictionless trade we would need a customs protocol to go with it along with a series of negotiated annexes which may take a number of years to complete. It's not as simple as just filling in an Efta application form.
3. EEA has often been described as an off the shelf solution (even by me) but it is only off the shelf insofar as it is an existing framework. It still needs to be beaten into shape and will have to take into account the concerns and red lines of Efta members.
