Gina Miller's lawyers have stated it could take 7 years before the UK would be ready to trade on WTO terms after a no-deal Brexit. (These are the same lawyers that trounced the Government previously.)

So even though WTO terms are really a disaster (much much worse than portrayed by Brexiters such as members of the ERG) we wouldn't even have that flimsy safety net in place after Brexit Day. We would have nothing whatsoever, a complete trade dead zone.
Meanwhile, Economists for Free Trade, the biggest unicorn farmers in the business, claim there is "nothing to fear". Of course there might be one thing to fear at least: the fact that they're almost certainly wrong.

So, we're heading towards the Big Amendment Showdown...
- Theresa May could be about to whip MPs to vote in an amendment that would wreck the deal she spent the last couple of years negotiating by mandating the Irish backstop be removed
- Labour, having pushed TM to kill off a no deal Brexit, may whip against Yvette Cooper's amendment designed to take a huge step in that direction
- Up to a dozen other amendments are in the mix
- Nobody knows which the Speaker will choose
- Govt may ignore outcome of vote anyway
- And finally, the stinking icing on the whole putrid cake: none of the amendments may get a majority, leaving us still careening towards the no deal Brexit cliff edge with no one anywhere near the brakes.

Quick exercise:
- Take 5 random "manufactured" food products out of the cupboard (ie not single ingredient things like a vegetable, meat, cheese etc.)
- Read the ingredient list a couple of times.
- Try and imagine where each ingredient came from.
Now for the questions:
- Do you think each of the ingredients came originally from the UK?
- If not, what do you think would happen if there are supply problems after Brexit?

N°1: you assert, "Britain traded perfectly well for the large chunk of history it has spent outside the EU." This is a spurious argument. The EU didn't exist then. We are going from the best possible trade terms with the EU (SM+CU) to worst (#WTO).

You're proposing that we dramatically downgrade 100% of our trade to WTO terms alone, at the stroke of a pen. This is insanity. It has taken decades to reach to position we're in today. No wonder Mogg says 50yrs to recover!

Officially UK is NOT joining a customs union....but in the absence of unicorns we clearly are.

Either via the Backstop or when its clear 'other arrangements' dont exist to fix the Irish border /2
Unfortunately May never had the courage to confront her Brexiteers over this fact. She fudged in Lancaster House, and kept fudging.

Recall this time last year, as the Irish reality dawned, senior peeps like @DLidington were flying kites on this.

1/ dismiss the very possiblity of no deal #Brexit as #ProjectFear and assure voters of a much better cake and eat it deal during campaign
2/on winning referendum experience gradual realisation that any #Brexit deal is not only certain to be inferior to EU membership but stratosphercally inferior to the promises made most of which you can't remember

1. The no deal #Brexit advocates are in full spin mode. They say we can trade on WTO terms alone. So anybody with a clue asks them about aviation and nuclear sectors etc where they mutter something about bilateral deals. That's an admission that we cannot trade on WTO rules alone
2. They then pretend we can have an amicable negotiated exit to WTO rules. We can't. This would be a package with all the bilaterals covering aviation and nuclear - there bare minimum to avoid civil emergencies. It would not include any mutual recognition on anything.
3. There is no way the EU would sign such an agreement without the existing agreements on citizens rights, the financial settlement and the NI backstop. There is no rowing back from that. The government would have to agree or there is no deal.

1. This is going to sound a bit preachy but I'm going to roll with it anyway. The Tory Brexiters have pulled a fast one. They have shifted to goalposts and now propagandists are spinning the narrative that any deal is a betrayal of #Brexit. These people are professional liars.
2. If we had a functioning media the people who say we can rely on WTO rules as a basis for our post-Brexit trade relations would be hauled over the coals by all of the major newspapers because it is not a matter of mere opinion. It is an outright demonstrable lie.
3. But rather than outing liars as indeed our media should, many vessels are actually complicit in the lie. Particularly BrexitCentral, City AM, The Telegraph, the Express and The Spectator. They will give houseroom to liars without flinching. This is what they do now.

1. I cannot contain my loathing of Jacob Rees-Mogg, Boris Johnson and John Redwood et al. They are wreckers and liars manipulating the stupid and the easily led.

2. When you've been in a political and economic union for forty years things get a bit complicated. There is layer upon layer of complexity and no one person understands it all and never will. It's massive and anyone claiming to understand it fully is lying or overconfident.
3. For instance, the aviation sector covers everything from landing slots to safety certification where often it is difficult to tell what is an EU competence and ans where the line of delineation is between the EU and the nation state.
