People are telling the #WhoDatNation that we are being temperamental and that we should let go of what happened in the #NFCCHAMPIONSHIPGAME. We will, once the season is over. But until then, let's pick this bone. There's been A LOT made of the referees' ONE missed call, but...
there is SO much more to see. By my count, there were ten (10) missed calls by the .@NFLOfficiating that did not go in the .@Saints' favor. Yes, TEN, and I will go through them in this thread. You are free to make counterpoints. I may not answer every one. But, we can chat
The 1st missed call came on the opening drive of the #NFCCHAMPIONSHIPGAME. This was a deep middle pass that fell incomplete in the endzone. The result was an attempted and made field goal by .@willlutz. With the penalty, that would have given the Saints a 1st & go.
Maybe they score a TD, maybe they don't. But this is the first missed call of many more to come.
The 2nd missed call came on the same play as a Saints' interception by Mario Davis. Had the pass only fallen incomplete, the Saints would have received a punt 40 yards down field
The 3rd missed call came on the Saint's ensuing drive. Once again, a holding or pass interference call would give the Saints a 1st & goal opportunity. Instead, it led to another field goal attempt by Lutz. The Saints COULD have been up 14-0 in the first quarter instead of 6.
That would have undoubtedly made the #NFCCHAMPIONSHIPGAME a totally different game. The 4th missed call also came in the 1st Quarter. This seems to be a horrible quarter for .@NFLOfficiating. They did not call this head-to-head call. The Saints did score a TD on this drive, but
.@joshhill was lost for some significant time. This 5th missed call came in the 2nd Quarter. .@drewbrees out of the pocket throws a pass under pressure. Usually, the referees give D-linemen 1 step to not call roughing the passer. On this play, they were given 2 or 3.
The .@Saints had to punt as a result of this no call. The 6th missed call was a holding call on .@TG3II. It would have made the next play 2nd & 20. Without this call, the Rams scored a touchdown just before the end of the half.
It is possible that with these calls, the .@Saints would have led the .@RamsNFL 21-3, or 21-10, and the Rams would have had 11 penalties in one half of football. The Rams played a sloppy game thus far.
The 7th missed call by .@NFLOfficiating came in the 3rd quarter. Another head-to-head penalty. The Saints did score another touchdown on this drive. The game could have been 28-10 at this point.
The 8th missed call came early in the 4th Quarter. On this 3rd down play, .@TedGinnJr_19 was being held as Drew passed him the ball. It was almost intercepted and fell incomplete. This Saints had to punt on the ensuing play. They were driving and could have had another FG att.
Considering that is was made, the game would now be 31-17 early in the 4th as the Rams answered the Saints TD with one of their own. After trading punts, the Rams then scored another FG. Saints 31, Rams 20
For the 9th call, I think we talked enough about that... But I will add that had the call been made, the Saints would have run out the clock with the score tied at 20, for the possible game-winning, probably walk off field goal.
Because the 9th missed call, the O-Lineman holding .@camjordan94, wasn't made, the Rams were given the opportunity to make their own drive at the end of the game. If this call was made, the Rams would then face 1st & 20 from the 15 with 1:37 left in the game
The 10th missed call of regulation allowed the Rams to get into FG position. If this call was made, it would have been Rams' 2nd and 20 from their own 34 with about 1 minute left in the game.
I don't know about conspiracies or anything like that, but when looking at the entire picture, one has to wonder. .@NFLOfficiating has some work to do. .@RamsNFL were given a clear advantage. If you want to debate, one would have to show numerous plays, blatant plays .@Saints
were also given. I'm open to seeing that. If that IS the case, then that would point to how AWEFUL the officiating was. And to be clear, I'm not talking about the entire crew. Certain calls are certain referees' responsibilities. I, personally, do not want a do-over.
The time to make the changes are BEFORE the game starts! The .@NFL and .@nflcommish promised that these are the best officials in the league, over the course of a grueling season for the players. No player or team should feel they weren't beat, but cheated.
For those who say .@Saints fans' are just butthurt, remember last year's divisional playoff game against .@Vikings, as much as it hurts to relive. No fan said the team was cheated. There were no calls for a do over. There were no billboards at the .@SuperBowl site.
So, .@nflcommish, as .@BenWatsonJr so eloquently put it, we're all waiting to hear from you. There should be something put in to address .@NFLOfficiating AT LEAST in your state of the league address. Fairness is an American value. Let that be your guide on this issue
