1. Healthcare Is A Privilege, Not A Right
I believe affordable healthcare is a privilege that every American should have, and we should strive hard to achieve that, but let us be clear, it has never been and shall never be a right.
2. Moreover, saying healthcare is a right, on par with say right to free speech, is prima facie absurd. There can never be a right to someone else's money or resources or expertise in a free country.
3. Just saying healthcare is a right won't make it so. Writing it into the law won't make it so either. What exactly would the law say? Social security is not a right. Medicare is not a right. These are federal programs. Good ones, but that doesn't make them rights.
4. Have the politicians become so intellectually lazy that they cannot sell their ideas without corrupting the language itself.
5. For a nation to afford universal healthcare (not necessarily govt provided, just in concept), it has to be prosperous enough. Fortunately, America is at the moment, but it was not always so, and it is not preordained that it will be always so.
6. Saying healthcare is a right is like saying a prosperous economy is a right. Can we guarantee a prosperous economy by writing a law. If we can, hell let us do it, and then sit back and enjoy prosperity forever, without having to work another day in our lives.
7. If that sounds absurd, then tell me how does it make any sense to have a right which is contingent upon a healthy economy, without also having a healthy economy as a right? Unless, it is the same kind of 'right' they have in Venezuela.
8. So friends, let us cut out the nonsensical semantic subterfuge about healthcare being a right (to the left every fricking wish is a right), and work hard to achieve and sustain affordable healthcare for every American.
9. It is the right thing to do. But remember every 'right thing to do' is not a universal 'right.' Leave the mindless blather to wily, slimy politicians.

The End.
