They were worse than wasted years... during the presidency of @PresJGZuma the country went from GDP growth ahead of the global average to way behind it. Oh, and... 
Business confidence collapsed.
Unemployment worsened, particularly for the youth.
In the last few years, South Africans have been getting poorer on average, while GDP per capita in the rest of the world has been rapidly increasing.
Government's financial position deteriorated sharply. Sars began missing budgets. National debt went from 27% of GDP to 56% (money our children will be paying back). SA went from a stronger fiscal position than average EM markets, to worse.
The state-owned enterprises were thrown into financial and governance chaos
The country was repeatedly downgraded by ratings agencies
The ANC suffered losing electoral support
The cabinet was reshuffled an unprecedented number of times
In short, it was far, far worse than a "wasted" presidency.
