1. Heard 1 of those appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council has “withdrawn” his name after it emerged he had not consented. The system has never changed. These “surprise appointments” are not unusual for the regime, old/new. I wouldn’t be surprised if he isn’t the only one
2. It reminds me of similar stories in the past. Ministers only discovered they had been appointed or fired through the news on ZBC or state papers. It’s what a regime does when it has no respect for individuals & thinks it owns them & can do whatever it wants with people.
3. In fact, it is a strategy in a system of patronage. The appointed is supposed to feel favoured, privileged and therefore grateful to the appointing authority. Few have the guts to say no to such unprocedural appointments. If anything, they are happy to join the elite group.
4. Therefore, if true, kudos to the genetleman who has said thanks but no thanks to the regime. He’s a man of integrity. An appointing authority must consult and seek consent before publicly announcing an appointment. There’s nothing noble about serving a regime abusing citizens.
