Portland doing what it does best: masochistic self-hatred for its demography. Portland City Council has passed a resolution that will seek to train all city employees about white supremacist ideology and how to identify it. oregonlive.com/expo/news/g66l…
I’d be supportive of this resolution if the net cast for who is a “white supremacist” or “alt-right” wasn’t so wide & didn’t have so many false positives. Why have Antifa when you have Portland’s city leadership:
The city suspends the rule of law at the feet of left-wing extremists who think they are in a cosmic battle with white supremacists. I’ve written about this before and it looks like it’s only going to get worse with the new re-education effort: wsj.com/articles/a-lef…
.@gordonrfriedman your reporting has some issues. The Proud Boys is not a white nationalist group. This type of disinformation is what motivates ignorant people to go on the streets to confront & fight people they associate with the group. oregonlive.com/expo/news/g66l…
Mayor/police commissioner @tedwheeler has not shown good governance on the problem of political violence. He struggles with being accurate—or lawful. In 2017, he called for the federal government to restrict the free speech rights of a right-wing group he called “alt-right.”
Then last October @tedwheeler announced the explosive claim that right-wing snipers with a “cache of weapons” had camped out on a roof to scope out potential victims. It was highly inaccurate, deceptive, and further inflamed tensions in the city. oregonlive.com/portland/index…
But I think the worst thing @tedwheeler did so far in his time as mayor/police commissioner is throw federal officers under the bus when a mob surrounded their office, blocked exits, & threatened them w/violence. Mayor announced that police would not help. wsj.com/articles/anarc…
And while the city works to re-educate city employees in critical race theory with public money, our city will continue to look like this:
Huge props to reporter @gordonrfriedman, who corrected his original description of the Proud Boys. It’s not popular to be accurate about the group. I know. Our national media has a lot to learn from journalists like Friedman. oregonlive.com/expo/news/g66l…
