Some time ago I complained about leftists being able to explain to u the history of every commie country to have ever (almost) existed, but not be able to explain the history of whatever Indig nation’s land they’re on. And I still feel that way, but I wanna expand on that
The reason it *really* makes me angry is because I’ve seen ppl out here talking about Indig nations in sweeping generalities pretending like that’s knowning national histories. No, it’s not, every nation is different. Despite a wider shared history, we all have v dif histories.
The reason it **really** makes me angry is because I’ve dedicated so much time to understanding Lakota history, and I still know so little. I’ve done so much digging, and I feel like I know nothing. But then ppl will come along and say like “reservations r bad” and get applauded
That’s not history. If you live in the Plains, do you know what the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1851 is? Cause that created the entire history of the land you live on. If you live in SD, do you know about the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868, the Sioux Agreements of 1877 and 1889?
This is all *basic* stuff for anyone that lives there. But you can be white and say “it’s all stolen land!” and ppl go wild. Naw, I’m not with that anymore, up your standards. In order for someone to get their highest amount of ally points, I’ma need you to know more than the...
bare minimum of “it’s stolen land.”

Furthermore, people pretend our histories stop once the land is stolen. Y’all know the massive effects WWI had on Lakota n other NDN communities? Y’all know what it was like living under superintendents? Y’all know about any of this stuff?
And *pls* don’t come in my mentions under this thread saying “you got any reading recommendations.” No, I do not, we’re talking about national histories. I can’t tell you where to find Mescalero history or whatever, that’s why google exists
