There is almost too much going on in this profile of AltSchool to absorb. I'm going to predict it's the last we hear of AltSchool until it meets its eventual complete demise. Some choice extracts coming in a thread. forbes.com/sites/susanada…
Couldn't help but wonder if public schools would have a more favorable image if they could afford both a communications chief and slick PR professionals to promote them.
Translation for "I'm good at telling AltSchool's story" is that Silicon Valley venture cap people are incredibly gullible and know nothing about how education works, either as a process of learning, or as a market.
The hubris is off the charts, even for Silicon Valley. A guy who read a couple of dozen books and was transfixed by a TED Talk thinks he can unlock a revolutionary approach to schools and learning. Whoo-boy.
Apparently, he needed to read more books before starting AltSchool.
Silicon Valley geniuses cannot overcome the need for children to poop and pee.
Even EdTech shills think the AltSchool business model for its software is unviable.
Ventilla sold his vision of a new kind of school to people who had no idea what was actually going on in schools and so "it sounded good" to them. These people deserve to lose all of their money.
And...we end with the pre self-martyring. If AltSchool fails, it's not because it was a half-cocked idea rooted in hubris and ignorance, it's because people didn't properly appreciate his sacrifice.
You gotta read the whole article to get the full flavor, and advice to AltSchool, don't pay the bill for that fancy PR firm that likely hooked you up with this coverage. Y'all got played. forbes.com/sites/susanada…
