Dictators intent on remaining in power create concentric yet rival rings of loyalty because the greatest threat is now internal. This ironically creates a perverse form of stability while the mutual terror lasts that will shatter as soon as the center falls.
The socialist regime is now said to be a frankly criminal enterprise built around drugs and rackets. Maduro's fall may resemble that of a cartel boss.
The key to getting a "good" replacement boss is finding someone whose interests align with rebuilding the oil industry. Someone who will respect contracts. But Brrnie will immediately see this as "war for oil". Maybe if the Europeans rebuild it that will be acceptable.
