This is big.

That pesky 9th District Court just ruled in Robles v Domino’s that the ADA applies to web sites.

Courts can now order companies to make their sites WCAG 2.0 compliant.

With courts now seeing that web site accessibility applies to ADA penalties, we’ll see some big changes in behavior.

The first will likely come when insurance companies raise rates for any company that doesn’t meet WCAG compliance. (That’s to avoid paying large settlements.)
This will create a bigger market for compliance certification firms. Insurance companies will demand certification sign-off to give preferred premiums.

This will likely push companies to require WCAG understanding from the designers they hire.

It’s possible there will be tests.

Listening to another large company design leader apologizing for using Net Promoter Score, saying it’s because it is something “easily explainable” to their executives.

The problem is NPS changes never reflect added or reduced value to the customer or user.
You can’t tell, when the NPS goes up, how the product or service is now more valuable than before.

You have no idea, when it goes down, how it’s less valuable than before.
Executives are smart. They see right through this kind of tomfoolery.

They accept NPS because it lets them have whatever agenda they want, detached from whatever actual value their teams are or aren’t delivering.

Over the next few days, senators will ask Judge #Kavanaugh questions about #SCOTUS cases, his record, and his qualifications. Some of these questions will be fair. Many others will be unfair.

I recently talked with graduate students in a seminar on #teaching practices in #HigherEducation about how to design and teach a course when you are not an expert on all of the content--which is really what most teaching is. Here are the main takeaways for those interested. 1/
In my experience, there are four main mistakes that novices often make when designing and teaching a course for the first time.

First, they approach the task by venturing off on their own into the wilderness of literature on all of the topics they don't know well. 2/
In other words, they prepare for course design as if it is a qualifying exam, attempting to become experts on all of the topics that the course will/should/must cover. 3/
