ICE put fake dates on deportation court summonses (known as a Notice to Appear, or NTA.) This is the second time this has happened since the Supreme Court ruled last summer NTA's must contain the time and date of the appearance.

Is the confusion tactic a feature or a bug? This isn't the first time chaos was used to play with people's lives. My own client was 2 hours into a 9 hour drive from Virginia to appear in court in Buffalo, NY before I called him to tell him whoops, ICE was just playing.
Playing with people's lives isn't funny at all.

I told that to the Washington Post.

The @vahousegop just killed the floor vote, and hence the #ERA, blocking Virginia from becoming the 38th and final state to ratify it and make gender equality part of the US Constitution.

I spoke to a voter yesterday who told me, "We keep voting against people, but we never vote for the people."

His words will stick with me. If an elected official can't act in the interest of 50.8% of the population, that official is not acting for the people.
Here in Virginia, we've gotten it wrong for a long time.

We got it wrong on the Civil War.
We got it wrong on segregation.
We got it wrong on suffrage.
We got it wrong on interracial marriage.
We got it wrong on disallowing women into VMI.
Today, we got it wrong again on #ERA.

ICE is working with schools in New York to arrest immigrant students who are accused of membership in MS-13, with no evidence required. One student was arrested after his principal accused him of gang ties for drawing his school’s mascot. features.propublica.org/ms-13-immigran…
The student, going by Alex in the article, had arrived in the US from Honduras as his family was fleeing gang violence. He’d gone out of his way while in school to make sure he never interacted with anyone who even remotely seemed like a gang member.
He saw his schoolmates, even a friend, get picked up by ICE—one on the way to church. They’d had no indications of gang membership, but all it would take is a rumor for the school to alert ICE.

1/ SOS #BOSTON:

Yesterday #ICE physically restrained my client just outside the #EastBoston District Court clerk's office immediately after he made bail. The chief of probation said it was the first time in 40 yrs immigration authorities had actually entered the courthouse.
2/ He is 21 years old. No crim record. 1 month away from a greencard. Facing serious harm if deported.

We had done everything possible to keep him from #ICE, but even the #Boston #TrustAct could not protect him.

This is a problem.

3/ Even when they are on a state-issued GPS bracelet, ICE officers will cut the bracelet off and toss it back onto a probation officer's desk. Even so, probation told me that they are officially "neutral" on #ICE actions. I tried to explain that there is no "neutral" here.

NIGHT COURT: About to stand on case where my 19 year old client & his girlfriend were jumped by 4 people all older than them. My client has bruises & a stab wound. But he’s charged w/ assault. The reason: the people who jumped him called the cops first. It really is that simple.
This is so common. Even when then there is so much evidence to the contrary. For instance, the people who jumped my client came to his building. They had no visible injuries. The police didn’t even ask my client what happened. It honestly feels crazy at times.
Police often make decisions as to who to arrest in assault cases based on very random factors rather than careful consideration of the evidence. For instance, when one person has an order of protection, they will arrest the other.

I am proud to announce that I have been certified "dangerous and unprofessional" by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and I'm pleased to say that the feeling is mutual.
To be clear: the U.S. government believes it was "dangerous and unprofessional" of me to tell the story of a single mother arbitrarily detained by #ICE with no thought for her 8-year-old son, and to request support for her from my fellow citizens.

I have a problem with this.
ADDENDUM: Author requested that #ICE contact local @AILANational chapter to "share these concerns." ICE AILA liaison called later that week to inform me that #ICE believed that I was "endangering officer safety"...

...by advocating for public to call #ICE to support a client.
