This thread is meant to be helpful, not fault-finding. It's to those who are marginal about the Church. I think we get out what we put in. Let me explain. If we rarely pray or read scripture it's hard to feel the Spirit. If we come to church late
sit in the back, scroll on our phones or day dream, it's hard to feel the Spirit. If we signal we don't want to be asked to do too much, rarely support additional mtgs or participate in service, we won't get to know many people or feel
included, & we won't feel the Spirit. If we don't make comments in class or engage w/what is presented, classes will be dull & tedious & seem long. The Gospel itself will seem flat & eventually dogmatic & demanding. On the other
hand, if we get involved, participate, sacrifice & extend ourself personally at home & at church, it is invigorating. Gospel study is infinitely interesting!! It never ends, & the more we know, the more sense it makes & the more
empowered we become. The same is true of sacrificial participation. When we magnify whatever opportunity we have to serve we are blessed & we bless others. Those most likely to murmur aren't in the arena. Sure our bishop
& our rs pres or ym leader are going to be imperfect - we ALL are, but when we are in the arena we also see the real intent, the effort, the prayers, the counsel, the preparation, the execution of that flawed presentation. I'm am thrilled
to know that every Sunday morning all over the globe thousands of ward councils gather to try to assess & meet the needs of ward members & neighbors & friends in & out of the church & at every phase in-between. Perfection is
never accomplished, but SO MUCH GOOD is. To those on the sidelines, come IN! Yes it's demanding. Yes it can be frustrating, but it's worth it. I submit when we feel bored or critical or under appreciated WE are the ones who need to
up the effort & the commitment. A favorite story of my MP goes like this: A little boy fell out of bed. His father asked him why? What happened? His response: "I guess I just didn't get in far enough." Come IN!! Half-way isn't safe or satisfying. Totally in is!
