1/ Hoping folks closer to Queen's Park than I am can provide some perspective...from a PR perspective, how do people think the tuition reduction/OSAP cut/voluntary student fee thing has played overall? Triumph? Disaster? Meh?
2/ For instance, the Tory talking points sure made it seem like they were expecting this to be a popular announcement. Possibly that was just bluff, but I wonder what they are saying to each other in the back rooms: do they feel this went well? Badly? About as expected?
3/ My take, fwiw: I think they were surprised at how little credit they got for lowering tuition. I think they genuinely thought this would more than offset whatever hit they were going to takes on OSAP and so didn't bother to try to line up any third-party endorsements.
4/ To be fair, it's easy to see how they would have missed that. The entire Canadian left has spent the last decade ignoring student aid and proclaiming sticker prices mattered more than net prices: who knew they'd do a 180 when Tories acted on same principle?
