Apropos of nothing, I just happened upon @GeorgeWill's review of E.T. (yes, this exists) from 1982, with this quote:

"I feel about children the way Wellington felt about soldiers. He even disapproved of soldiers cheering, because cheering is too nearly an expression of opinion."
The review opens this way, and I shit you not, George Will only half-jokingly condemns Spielberg to the fate of Socrates for making "E.T."
I would pay good money to read a book of George Will reviewing children's films because holy shit, this is hilarious.

Imagine that all the bad shit in Christianity remains but now it's dressed up in really soft, warm sermons and concert-like worship services with stage lights and fashionable preachers and a heavy emphasis on pop music and youth-centered messaging. Hateful w/ an Instagram charm.

Sweetie, I'm not mad so much as perplexed because women do this shit for their kids ALL. THE. TIME. -- and there are no segments on "Good Morning America", let alone Facebook, congratulating them. Why? Because women, even without kids, are expected to do this.
.@rhmaz610 True story: one of my best friends is a guy with three young kids. He's a great parent. He and his wife are co-parents in every sense. He's told me about the numerous times some older woman will compliment him on his "babysitting" and how insulting that feels.
.@rhmaz610 My friend finds it condescending that because he's a man, he's not expected to know how to be a parent. Because he's very good at it. So, this shit where men get a parade for doing basic things really bothers him. You're so spun up that you didn't even think of that.

I think we're too busy being worried that men are going to kill us to care about emojis.
Also: roomy vaginas are awesome.
I don't make small penis jokes because I think it's important to stay away from body shaming, but the idea of men internalizing this emoji while they don't say shit about the myriad ways in which women are degraded on a daily basis doesn't inspire much sympathy from me.

Reading this article does not inspire confidence. Sounds more like they’re poised to make the same mistakes all over again. Having spent decades in a fruitless search for WIMPs motivated by the WIMP miracle - an irrelevant numerical coincidence - might they decide to learn more?

@SenSchumer Nothing that the confirmation process had to offer was relevant to these senators because they already had the one piece of information, the one word, that really mattered: Trump.

They would oppose the nominee because he or she would be Trump’s nominee. Period.

apropos of nothing, i applied to a lot of things i was excited for this year and did not get accepted into them. i just wanted to share that, in case it helps. let's keep going. take it as a sign that you still have room to grow, as permission to continue, and let's keep going
something important i've learned is in how to frame this thing. it's not "i got rejected" it's "my application for this specific thing at this specific time wasnt accepted"
there have so been many things in my life that didnt work out the way i thought i wanted to, that, looking back, i am very grateful did not happen. different things await you. keep going. your only job is to keep going.
