Negotiations wise, we're all expecting that the most the EU will offer is a legal letter that the backstop is intended to be temporary. It isn't going to be enough for conservative hardliners, but the EU judges nothing can satisfy them 2/
The EU had little faith the PM could carry Parliament before the first vote, after it and the Brady amendment they have none. So they're doing the counting, and reckon the deal or a softer Brexit can pass. No need then to change red lines 3/

Right, these days having your own Brexit compromise is the fashionable thing to do, so I thought I'd have a go.

Plan Y. Y for Yes. Or perhaps Y for Yet Another Compromise. And leaves plenty of letters for others.

So, my compromise is basically to kick the can down the road in rather a more structured fashion than the PM is proposing, accepting we need more time, leaving the EU at end June, and then setting up mechanisms to evaluate future options - in UK and jointly
Something for everyone here, it reopens the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement currently not available UK-wide, allows for the possibility of rejoining in the future, citizens assemblies, parliament having a say, allow the EU to get on with their challenges

Take a pragmatic rather than ideological approach with most things. The major benefit of ideological approaches is that they generally only offer 1 choice so you never have to really think about anything. The major benefit of a pragmatic approach is flexibility.
College vs. No college. Some people think everyone should go, some think nobody should go, these are ideological choices. Instead frame it as "Why am I going" and "Is it required"

Want to practice medicine you need a degree, to write code you don't.

1. A thread on #trade and aid.

One of the first tangible benefits of #Brexit I've seen is the emerging reform of @DFID_UK where it is becoming more of an arm of trade policy than a state owned humanitarian NGO. I would like that to go much further and rethink trade.
2. I do not think we should be wasting too much effort on free trade deals largely because they are of questionable value and encourage inefficient value chains. Any work on tariffs should really be reserved for multilateral activity.
3. Instead we need DfID as the spearhead of our trade policy. There is no reason why we cannot pursue humanitarian goals and enhance our trade while we are at it. For a start we can do a lot with medicines and pharmacy products.
