Designers are the ones on the front lines of bad business decisions to abuse privacy - and when we push back against a big initiative, we can be replaced.

If you want to protect privacy, ensure that there is a dedicated agency for whistleblowers to report violations.
NOT an all-purpose FBI call center-like-hotline - we need a place where feedback on the status of a report and advice on how to proceed will be given.

Nothing is worse than not knowing if somebody is listening...
well, except when nobody listened, you lose your job for pushing back, and somebody else gets hired and the thing that violates basic privacy considerations gets built anyway.
