- Women of colour questioning the power and unchallenged entitlement of white men -

THAT is at the heart of just about every headline and “controversy” involving newly elected representatives to the US Congress.
That is why I wrote this soon after they were elected about importance of @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib - women of colour, first Muslim women in US Congress who before they even entered the House, had a proud history of talking back to Trump google.com/amp/s/www.nbcn… #IStandWithIlhan
Remember when Trump said this of Ghazala Khan: "His wife… if you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say...She probably, maybe she wasn't allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.” i.e. Muslim women were silenced.
Well, @IlhanMN OWNS her voice When Trump was still just the Republican nominee for president, the American Muslim father of a U.S. soldier killed in Iraq launched a scathing critique of Trump’s vow to bar Muslims from the U.S. Standing with his wife Ghazala by his side at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Khizr Khan rebuked Trump by offering to lend him a copy of the U.S. Constitution.
What I esp love about @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib is that they complicate image of Muslim women. They remind me of my sister - who wears hijab - and I (I obvs don’t). And I can tell you my sister TAKES NO SHIT. So, know that Ilhan disrupts a bazillion stereotypes of Muslim women
How glorious to see Ilhan Omar take no shit!

How glorious to see Rashida Tlaib take no shit! I wrote this about her powerful and uncompromising use of profanity, and as you see in the thread, her pride in identities she will never abandon
That is why #IStandWithIlhan & refuse to argue over what she said. Those arguments over what she said will happen every fucking week because it is more about who is speaking - a Black Muslim woman - than what she is saying because many in the US believe Muslim women are silenced
When you believe a Muslim woman is silenced - as Trump suggested about Ghazala Khan - and you hear a Muslim woman merely speak, and not just speak but speak back to power, then of course everything goes berserk! Whaaat?! Muslim women have a voice??! Whaaat?!
“I am America’s hope and the president’s nightmare,” @IlhanMN
I haven’t met @IlhanMN in person - I hope to someday soon - but I have long admired and respected her here, and we have communicated several times. I was especially touched when she sent me greetings on my 50th birthday
So much respect for @IlhanMN

Rep. Ilhan Omar: “I fail to understand why members of this committee or the American people should find any testimony you give today to be truthful."

Elliott Abrams:“If I could respond to that—”

Omar: “It wasn’t a question.”
Holding power accountable: Elliot Abrams “was widely criticized for shrugging off reports about massacre of 1,000 men, women & children by US-funded death squads in El Salvador. In 1991,he admitted to withholding information from Congress about Iran-Contra” google.com/amp/s/amp.theg…
