“But EVERYONE is behaving unacceptably” is a hell of a reason for an adult to give as a reason not to demand acceptable behavior.

It’s a child’s reason.

It’s time to grow up.

What if the immature and unimaginative worldview was the one that instinctively rolled its eyes at the very idea of a world at peace, what then.
What if the reason people create brokenness—within ourselves and without—is because we never even try for peace, having determined to cling to a comfortable fear rather than hope for a dangerous love? What then?
It’s pretty extraordinary to me that the worldview whose best solution to the problem of evil is to hoard wealth hiding behind a high wall with a loaded gun also considers itself the moral, clear-minded and brave one.

Yes and in real life Ammon Bundy is quite kind. That I find I like him as a human doesn’t in the slightest change the fact that the dude is willing to get other people killed to defend his political beliefs.

It’s possible for harmful people to be pleasant acquaintances.

THREAD: I’ve been reading this sentiment on Twitter a lot lately.
I really don’t understand people. Sometimes I feel like I’m from a different planet. Twitter is abusive. I get it. Twitter is oppressive. I get it. Twitter is biased against conservatives. Isn’t that patently obvious? So, why are you still on Twitter?
All my life I’ve lived by a simple code. I don’t support people who promote things that I disagree with. So, I changed auto insurance companies, even though it cost me more money. I stopped viewing movies that feature certain actors whose behavior I find despicable.

1/ Interesting point 👇 that's worth unpacking. Does being major importers and big investors translate into FTA negotiation leverage?

The answer is that it CAN but as always in trade, things are a bit more complicated.
2/ By definition, a country that's importing has barriers (tariffs, regulations, etc.) low enough at least some foreign firms can compete.

Unless those foreign firms are importing under FTAs or other exclusive arrangements, lowering barriers further is useful but limited.
3/ When evaluating a tariff offer, negotiators will ask two questions:
- Can an increased number of my firms better compete with local producers with this new lower tariff?
- How big an advantage will this offer be over competitors from other countries (under MFN or their FTAs)

Anonymous accounts are actually important for a range of reasons, to allow people to have social media lives outside their work, and to talk about personal stuff and have an identity even when they’re under threat.
However, the ability to easily create dozens of social media accounts is a bad thing. It gives massive power to trolls and harassers, and there’s only a limited amount that can be done to fight them while unlimited accounts are available.
Ideally, you’d find a way to limit the number of accounts someone can easily maintain, you’d have the ability to ban a *device* for a period of time, you’d build in techniques to slow switching between accounts, you’d tie them together in some way.

First things first. What has really changed? US tariffs on steel and aluminium stay and so do EU retaliatory tariffs. No tariffs on EU car industry for now – so basically we have got the status quo before the meeting. 2/
Except the EU has promised to buy US soy beans and US LNG gas. On soy beans, which apparently are already being bought by EU thanks to low price, how does the commission plan to order companies to buy US beans? 3/
