@MikeStuchbery_ This is an awesome thread and a frightening threat at the same time. I am very much fearful of what is happening in the UK now. Mogg defending concentration camps where people were deported to starve did not help. Let me tell you what I know from my ancestors: ->
@MikeStuchbery_ My Great Grandmother was Prussian. She died in 2002, 95 years old. She lost my Grandfather due to an illness/malnutrition at about 1943. She then had to marry another man fast so the fields could be tilled. He was forcibly recruited just a few months later and died in Stalingrad.
@MikeStuchbery_ Then she took a third man, as farm needed some man. He helped there yet again for a few months, but was also forcibly recruited. He was captured just a short time after that. He died in a russian Gulag in about 1950 due to starvation.
Then the Russians came. The "Treks" started
@MikeStuchbery_ They looked like this. While fleeing, one day my grand aunt (my grand-grandmothers daughter) Anita fell on her head, and was disabled for life. She died in 2009. It was a race against the russian advance. My grandmother Sigrid was with them too. They had slaughtered chicken
@MikeStuchbery_ in a barrel, salted, to eat. They made it nearly, just nearly to the Elbe. But it was too late. The allied forces were about to blast the bridges in an area north of Dresden. My Grandmother told me, there were bombings, and Soldiers died, covered in burning phosphorus.
@MikeStuchbery_ My grandmother is still alive, 81 now. She was born in 1937. She was 8 years old when that happened. She saw men burning with phosphorus in the Elbe, a german river. the water did not extinguish the fires. They burnt through their clothing. They died a horrible death
@MikeStuchbery_ She has survived the war, and has had ovarian cancer and colonic cancer and survived both. She resides in the East german town of "Cottbus" where I was born and still lives a happy life with Sauna and riding her bycicle to her allotment. She told me all this. I even saw the ->
@MikeStuchbery_ "Lagerbuch" (stock book) of the russian Gulag where my second Step-Grandfather died. In Siberia. They had minimal food and he starved due to malnutrition in the Winter of about 1950. He was booked out like an accounting record. Like so many jews. These times were perverse.
@MikeStuchbery_ All that led to me. I was born in 1988 in Eastern germany. So I was born in a dictatorship too. My family moved to the west in 1990 and I cannot remember anything. But Eastern Germany was shit. My mother hated it. But, In the Stasi Regime, as my grandmother who saw the phosphorus
@MikeStuchbery_ bombings was a teacher, she had to play by the rules. It was impossible to be a teacher in eastern germany without being part of the one socialist party. So she had no choice but to kneel down to the system to keep her job. This was for real, criticism was not allowed.
@MikeStuchbery_ So to get to my point: To all this misery that happened, and that is being forgotten now, can the current developments lead yet again. History repeats itself, but what happened in WW2 was so horrible, that it must never be repeated. We have to fight this. We cannot by any means
@MikeStuchbery_ imagine the suffering, that people in these times had to endure. We are spoilt in comparison. Following people like @Jacob_Rees_Mogg, who are playing with historical revisionism is very, very dangerous. Trump played with the thought of killing journalists. Mogg played with ->
@MikeStuchbery_ @Jacob_Rees_Mogg thoughts like proroguing parliament to get his way, or downplay boer concentration camps. Where people were encamped and starved. This is very dangerous territory. I had to go through Nazism 3 times in my education. My Nazi-bells are ringing and I am very worried.
@MikeStuchbery_ @Jacob_Rees_Mogg This is a photo of my GDR vaccination card. Just found it deep in a drawer
@MikeStuchbery_ @Jacob_Rees_Mogg It is bad quality as was common with GDR stuff. But you can see the hammer and the sickle...
